My '01 raptor tranny just went to hell. I was wondering if I should re-hone the sleeve and put new rings on the piston before I re-assemble the motor. The sleeve still has somewhat of a cross hatch pattern in it. Thanks for any help!

 

When I replaced my tranny (blew the 01 and coverted to an 02) I did that exact thing - I figured it'll save me the trouble of pulling it apart again too soon down the road and it's a pretty cheap and simple thing to do.

I'd say go for it......

 

doin ring, topends, and hone is practicaly simple maintenance. it could only be good for your engine. so go for it

yeah do it, it is cheap maintenence and it is really no hassle because you are already in the anyway. so go for it.

 

How much does it typically run for a shop to re-hone a cylinder? I'm going to be putting in a stock bore JE piston and was curious about what price to expect. I've heard of being able to do it on your own, but I'm not sure where to get the honing brush? I have access to a drill press...
