went for a trail ride today and on the way back i stopped to take a break. long story short, when i hit the start button with it in neutral and clutch pulled as always, it cranked for a second and then went into a buzz. When i let go and tried again, that buzz turned into a click. the lights arent working so im guessing its the battery. Whats the deal?! why is the battery going dead? The fuses on the solenoid (i think thats what it is...thats where the buzz comes from) are fine. is the alternator or whatever regenerates power to the battery faulty? this is the second time it happened in the past two days. yesterday was the first time it happened. This bike is only 4 months old, the battery shouldnt be going dead, should it?

Check your connections on your battery first, make sure they are tight (I hope its something like this).
That noise of the buzz and then the click is not good. If its not the battery then there is a possiblity of the one way gear. Mine went out about 4 months after I had it. Try when it does it to put it in gear and rock it back and forth and see if you can get it to grab. If this works then its your one way bearing. If this is the case then you need to get it to the dealer and let them pay for the change out on your one way.

no, well the buzz and then click is coming out of that little rubber thing behind the battery with the two fuses on it. Not from where the actual starter is. If it was the one-way, wouldnt it have to be coming out of the starter? thanks, while i wait for replies, im gonna check the tightness of everything.
btw, i do everything to conserve. I always start it in neutral with clutch pulled but i think i usually transport it with the first gear engaged so maybe that killed it?

also, since ive had it, there always been a white powder looking residue on top of that metal plate that holds the battery down. is that bad or normal? It didnt seem normal, but since i had it since the day afer i got it i thought it might have something to do with the non maintenance battery design. I dunno?
When i just tried to start it, the lights would go on untill i try tostart it and then as soon as i tap that button everything goes dead. I dont even hear a buzz or click anymore.

You shouldnt start with the lights on if you possibly have a dead battery. You need to take the battery cables off, clean the terminals, then reconnect them and charge the battery with a trickle charger. Use a 10mm socket to tighten the battery terminals pretty tight. A screwdriver wont work, I dont know why they are ever phillips drive bolts on there.
Doesnt sound like the one-way

well the cables arent loose and where all the corrosion is is at that plate, not the connections. I cant imagine what the problem is. Is there any way to check if its the stator? thanks

If you look closely at the fuse holder, you'll probably see a little green corrosion down in there. My friends 03 Rap is doing the same thing. Try spraying electrical contact cleaner in the fuse holder and definately clean your battery posts and put some corrosion inhibiting grease on the terminals afterward. My guess is that you are taking your seat of when you wash your quad occasionally and the water is corroding the electrical connections.
