Default I really need some gearing advice!

I have a piped/jetted Raptor with an NX 20 shot and am wondering what the optimal gearing would be for 300ft flat sand drags. I have 20-10-10 8 paddle Edges right now, but am going to upgrade to 21-12-8 or 22-12-8 Double Buff Extreme 8 paddle Haulers fairly soon. I have Sidewinder titanium sprockets (13/40, I think that is stock gearing) and would ideally like to just replace the fron, because it is only like $25 instead of like $120 for the back. Would a 14 tooth on the front be good for the nos, but too much for when I'm off the bottle? I really need to know, cause every little bit helps. Thanks in advance.

14 would gear you up, and if you have the power for it, go for it.

12 would gear you down and get you through the gears quicker if you was wanting to do that.

In my opinion a 14 tooth would do you justice all the way around. It will let that extra power get to the ground on and off the bottle. You should be able to start off in second gear also at the drags. I think you will be supprised at how much better the Raptor will run with the 14 tooth. The Raptors love the taller gearing because they are a torquy bike and have no problem with the taller gearing. Try it and see. Slim

Buddy you asked a very tough question but very important. I have messed with mine for 2 years I hope what I have learned will help. When I go to LS I always take a 12 13 14 tooth sprockets for the front and 40 42 rear but thats not all there is to gearing tire roll out is also very critical try to get a tire with a 70 inch roll out or less . Then there is air presure is just as big a factor also. The best I have ever felt my methonal raptor pull was with 21x12x8x10 haulers with a 14f 42r 2nd gear start on dry sand but when the sand was tacky I used the 12 or 13 depending on how wet the sand is. Trust me you can gain or lose up to 3 quad length racing at LS. I though I had it figured out then I bought the same size tire only triple buff haulers now I have to start all over again because the triples grow alot more than the regular haulers. The 14 42 combo was way to high a gear now because the tire was bigger around than my old ones. With 9lbs psi it would'nt launch in 2nd gear anymore I lowerd the psi to 5lbs and got it to pull better but it was'nt even close to the way it pulled before.I put the 13f on and it pulled alot better but it was the end of the day and DSMike was leaving I had no one to test by. I have'nt had the chance to test anymore because of my back is hurt but I think I will probably run the 12fx42r sprocket combo with the triple buffs and do the rest with air pressure. You have alot of testing to do but I hope what I have said helps out.
