or maybe 3rd or 4th lol..
but instead for my first quad being the yfz450... i was thinking of going with the raptor.

cause isnt it a bit slower and i can probably learn faster that way. And they seem to be very mod friendly? or am i wrong

The Raptor is an exelant choice for an all around quad and the mods are endless. You won't be dissapointed. Buy the Raptor, ride the Raptor, love the Raptor.

If your only reason for deciding between the two is the learning curve, I think it would be about the same either way. I can't see why the Raptor would be that much easier to ride than the 450 really.

If you want something to learn on, a Warrior or 300ex is probably the best choice, but you'll probably find yourself wanting more, but that depends on what you are looking for.

As long as you respect the machine and know your own limits you'll be fine with anything out there.

If your trying to save money buy the Raptor as the prices are probably lower than the new YFZ. If money's not a problem and you really like handling get the YFZ. The Raptor is fairly kind of top heavy due to it's high center of gravity, so it feels tippy. You can shift your weight around to compensate for some of it, but you'll still feel some of the tippiness. The suspension on the Raptor is more plush (squishy/soft) which provides a very comfortable ride. The YFZ has a more rigid suspension (and seat). It's more setup for racing so that's why it rides quite a bit rougher. The YFZ is wider, shorter and has a lower center of gravity than the Raptor, so it will out handle it. In my mind it's kinda like comparing a fast Cadilac to a Camaro. Both will get you where your going in good time, but one will handle the twists and turns in the road a little better than the other.

See if you can test ride both and buy what feels best for you.
