Speed VS. Compression

I had an 11 to 1 JE piston in my raptor and it ran great until it blew apart. I'm going to put a 12 to 1 JE in it. I know when raising compression on a 250R slows it down while hillshooting. Will it do the same to my Raptor?

Definately wrong. Higher compression boosts low end torque. That's why you cannot put a cam with a lot of duration in a low compression engine. Camshafts with a lot of overlap bleed off cylinder pressure. Making them a no bottom end P.O.S. The only negative affects of high compression are that they are more detonation prone and they will rev SLIGHTLY slower than an engine with less compression.

ok i have a question that is somewhat off topic, but i am curious. Why are there 3 compression numbers for two strokes and only 2 for 4strokes. Or maybe some 4-strokes to have three numbers that i haven't seen. But my question is, what exactly do these numbers mean (2-stroke ones). And since u say that lower compression will allow the motor to rev quicker, does that mean that 2-strokes have a relatively lower compression than four- strokes? is that why 2-strokes rev quicker. just curious. thanks!

I had a 250r that I use to hillshoot with and the higher compression definantly does not slow you down. I raised mine to 210 lbs and the power gain was awesome. Raising compression increases both hp and torque. The higher compression piston also increases bottem end torque not lowers it.

Maybe when you raised the compression in your two stroke you messed up the shape of the combustion chamber. Raising compression gives you generally more power all over for the same amount of gas. You get better gas milage, but the more expensive gas kinda cancels that out.

WOW, that makes me look stupid! Yeah, I was thinkin right, but was typin too fast. Stage Two cam giving you low end torque? Woah, don't know what I was on. Piston gains more power down low to regain what was lost with the cam. Sorry, just a little out of it. whew
