Is the Banshee a good choice
#1
Hello all. I'm fixin to buy my first atv. I've done a bit of study, reading etc. On how all the atvs ride, how the handle etc. I've got a little riding experience. I'm planning on buying a used banshee. 96 or so. It's the best bang for the buck as I can tell. I know I'll have to get used to it's powerband, and do a few things to help low end and smooth the power out. I'll be riding in trails a lot, don't know how tight, haven't seen extremely tight places to ride yet, but would like to. I'll also be going to Glamis in November with it, so I need something good. Just wondering what everyone's experiences with it in the trails, and it's all around performance. I know the 400ex would be bettter for an everywhere ride, but I don't have that much money.

Jason

I have a 96 myself and I ride in basically just about anything with it. All you need is a little work to smooth out the powerband (K&N, and down 1 tooth on the front sprocket for more low end) and basically the machine is a beast. I love it and wouldn't trade it for anything.

Do yall have a problem with the cooling of your banshee? I heard at low speeds it can overheat and spill out. Is that a problem? I won't have a whole lot of money to spend on it. If I have to I'll get some different tires, Fast trekkers if I gotta buy them myself. And I won't need tons of power anyway..need to get used to what I'll have..but I'm looking forward to it. Do yall work on it yourselves? If so, are you very mechanically inclined? I will have to do most repairs myself, and want to, so am wondering if being water cooled and dual cylindared make it extrememly hard to work on the head and cylendar.
Later all,
Jason

i do all the work on my banshee and it's not that big a deal. you're not screwing around with the head/cylinders very often, mind you...
the banshee can get pretty hot, and coolant will drip out the overflow tube, but i understand this is normal. mine does it alot.
