HELP ME PLEASE

ok, i know that this is an atv forum..but i figure that you guys know what your talking about and hopefully will be able to help me.
i am working on my friends TT-R90. it hadnt been run in about two years, and he wanted to try to ride it last weekend. i kicked it a couple times, and then they told me that it hadnt been started for over two years. i drained the gas, took off the carb, and cleaned the float bowl and anything else that i could clean, and put new gas in it. it started and i rode it around for a little while, but it would keep dying anytime that i would let it idle. i just put it in the back of the truck and went on with the day..i mean after all, we were at the lake. i got it home a few days ago, and tried starting it..and it would BARELY start. the only way it would start is with the choke on, and then it would barely run for five seconds...at idle, then die. so i started to take it apart, to clean out everything really well, cause i didnt really clean it too good at the lake...and i took the gas line off of the carb, with the petcock in the off position, and it still leaked out a little bit of gas. what i was wondering is if it was possible for the gas to flood the carb just sitting there? and if so, ill need a new petcock right?
one more thing...when i was riding at the lake, the float got stuck open, and i didnt really feel like taking the carb off again to clean it really really well...so i just put a screw in it. would this have any effect on whats happening to it now? i have the screw out and everything together the way it shoud be, but it just wont start...
can someone please help me?
thanks
