if you are running the stock air box set up now i would recommend going with the pro design in either the k&n configuration or the foam filter ,either way you would benefit .you dont have to spend a whole lot of cash to make a good strong runner just have a competent shop do the piston work or you will pay for it later.as i suggested to wildchild660r about his buildup he wants to do i can give you the name of a good shop here in eugene if you are interested.i dont see how you can keep the price down to 600.00 with all you want to do but if you are planning doing some of the work yourself then maybe. let me know if i can help with any more information.

Sounds like you are on your way to a good running 686. Hope it all turns out to your satisfaction. You will save a lot by doing the labor yourself. Good Luck Slim

Sorry to be a nag but i want to do it right the first time, when my piston hit the valve and bent it up, could it of bent the crank? and if so how hard is it to replace that, the top end work isn't that hard but breaking the case scares me.

Raptor Tranny.com makes splitting the cases VERY easy. I doubt that it would have messed up your crank, but its possible I guess. If you have to replace a crank/rod you won't be able to do it for $600.

The worst thing that might have happen to the crank more than likely is you may have bent the crank rod but it is probably ok. To be safe get the crank rod checked. You should be able to check it without breaking the cases. If push comes to shove and the crank rod is messed up breaking the cases is a lot more complicated than the top end. You will more than likely have to send the crank off with whatever rod you choose to have it repaired or you may be able to find a builder that can supply the rod and repair the crank. If you are really mechanically inclined with a good manual you can do the bottom end but it will take you some time if this would be the first time you took something like that on. Hope your crank is ok and you get it up and running soon. Slim

added a pic in my profile of my piston where it hit and bent the valve. the valve never hit the head but is bent and stuck so i have to have it removed. so when my profile is approved again you can tell me what you guys think.
