I was wondering your's, and any other YFZ's opinion on the YFZ. A buddy of mine has a 770 Raptor and he was greatly impressed with it. Said it was completely awesome, and lived up to the hype...what are your thoughts, and anyone else has one...what is the facts on this quad?
I look to get one, and the sooner the better.....I sorta want to get one in the spring....but then again I would like to wait till summer and get the new 05' color's just to be differnt. Cause a lot of people are running around on red/white yfz's, and the blue one's to.

I'm ~5'10" ~205 w/ gear (don't ride w/o it) so I'm on the bigger end of the spectrum. I know there's a lot of 220+ guys out there, but there's even more sub 170lb'ers.
First, some whine about the seat. Coming from a dirt bike, I find the YFZ seat perfect. The YFZ is very easy to manuever on trails... just reposition your weight to the inside and push a tad - BLAM your turning. A mix of throttle, balance and ***** and this machine can fly faster than I'm comfortable through the bush. I came to dirt bikes from kart racing. If you've ever driven or seen shifter karts, you know how they corner - very fast/tight. You have no issues staying awake behind the wheel. The YFZ on the hard packed trails of Utah is just as violent. What you don't get in terms of g-forces (karts) is balanced out with bumpiness (YFZ). What the trail throws at you coupled with the power of the YFZ and 14/40 gearing make for a very "exciting" ride.
I probably don't need to get into the 4-stroke bit - that's all I own.
My wife's has only the lid off and sparky out and that made an additional ~3.8hp here @ 4,500'. Very, very noticable. With my mods, I've gained ~7.9hp. Very, very noticable.
As far as dragging, which seems to be the popular thing to do with these sport quads, the YFZ450 holds it's own against all the 440's out there. I've only run the sand hills and I've yet to find a 440 machine to beat me. In fact, they don't come around me. They just sit and watch. But dragging is not what this machine is about.
In terms of just cruising in the sand, the YFZ is a very good machine. I used the phrase "very good" simply out of respect. I think even more of it, but I don't want to get carried away. With my mods, I'm confident trying any trail up any hill in the sand - and you don't need a running start. Well let's back up... every hill I try with the YFZ, I make with ease. I cruise the sand looking for the steepest hill/trails/chutes/etc. The power of the YFZ does not let me down as compared to the CRF450R that I ride. I know the quad is ~100lbs more than the bike, but I feel it more than compensates for it in terms of what you can do with it. I can't ride my CRF through the trails like the YFZ. In other words the "slower" machine is the faster machine. Make sense?
A lot of folks thought I was nuts for getting one for my wife... "you trying to kill her or something". I can't think of a better machine for my wife in the places that we ride.
As far as a jumps and track type riding, I'm just getting started. Quads are a different animal when it comes to jumping IMO. I'm starting to work at it and will be trying a real mx track sooner or later.
Summary:
If you want a machine that moves, handles and looks like no other, you will not go wrong with the YFZ. I have no regrets with respect to making the purchase(s) - none. I was pretty hardcore Honda and my friends thought I was a traitor when I told them I was trading this (Honda '03 600RR) for a "quad".
This machine is capable of doing everything the other machines do and then some. If you want to drag, the YFZ will do very well for a 439cc machine, but I'd suggest a 535cc shee for general dragging purposes. If you want an entire package that can excel absolutely anywhere, the only answer is the YFZ450.
Hope this helps.

REVERSE! If that dang quad had reverse, I think I would give up 3/4 of the stuff I own (Both Quads, 2 Guitars, Video Camera, Guitar Amps, Computer, even my bed!) just to own it.....
That's what I'd do if it did have reverse, since it don't, I'll consider it next year.
