I was at the Yamaha dealer today and was told that the motor is a 660 5 valve with between 70 and 80hp and he was told it has 20 more foot pounds of torque than the grizzly. They are going to see one on the June 13. He also said that the motor got alot of its design from the 426 base.

i agree why would yamaha make a new 660cc quad when there is alredy one there or even if they copied the 4z426 motor which i doubt why not just stick the yz 426 in the frame thats what every body wants isn't it

When the dealer told me that the motor was based or like the 426 he did not say copied. He did say that it was out of an other bike. The 426 is a 5 valve so is the 660. He said it was going to have about the same power feel (not the same power just feel)

Its good to see so many honda riders over here in the yamaha forum watching closely with the rest of us.

Did he say if it was liquid cooled. Fro the picts it looks air cooled but I could be wrong. Some liquid cooled motors still have fins. Also hopefully its not as big as the Bomadier. I Like big motors but not big quads. My budy used to have a Quadracer 250 with the 500 motor in it. It was an awsome machine with speed and aglity until it got stollen then decided on a Fourtrax 250R.

The new yamaha sounds impressive and I might even consider selling the DS650, but there ain't no way that thing makes 70-80 HP STOCK, sorry!
