Is the 450r 450c.c.s? Did the ATVA raise the cc level???

I keep hearing that the 450r has 450cc's, not 440. I also keep hearing that the ATVA raised the cc limit in the 250 class of the GNC circuit. Is there any truth to this??????

actually, it happened just like this:
last year, yamaha was designing the "YFZ440", they order a bunch of cranks with a shorter stroke so they could legally race in the ATVA.
then when they were just finishing up development, the ATVA changed the rule to allow full 450s.
Yamaha, changed the name to YFZ450 knowing that the ATVA raised the limit and also knowing that Honda was also developing a new racing quad with a full 450cc.
I'm guessing once Yamaha sells X amount of 439cc bikes they'll start putting the bike cranks in to get to 449. i'm also guessing they'll update the YFZ in some other ways to make it more competitive against the semi-inferior honda.
it's gonna be a good decade, I think.

Folks, they had been talking about this for years. It isn't like this was a surprise to anybody (except you guys!). If Yamaha wanted a 450 limit, WHY DIDN'T THEY JUST ASK FOR IT??? They didn't, because they didn't want to let the cat out of the bag to early!

Theres no ONE person in the ATVA that can change the cc limit. hundfreds, even thousands of council members vote on every ATVA rule that is passed. So Honda coming out with a 450r was just a coincidence.

Just to set the record straight, the limit on the 4-stoke class is still 440 and 450 is the production class limit at the present time. The ATV rep that was elected from your AMA district will be meeting the 1st week in Oct to set the rules for next year. AT that meeting the limit will be voted on to raise the limit of the 4-stroke class to 450 or some other number maybe. I would think that if the limit is raised the number for the 2-strokes will also change. There is some talk about changing a few things for next year, but again nothing has been voted on for next year. We have a list of about 30 rule changes for next year. How many will pass I don't even want to take a guess on the number.
