2001 Raptor vs 2004 Raptor Comparison
#1
Hello,
I used to own a 2001 Yamaha Raptor 660R and I'm thinking about purchasing a 2004 Raptor 660R in the near future. Can someone tell me what the biggest changes are between these machines? I know that my machine was geared on the tall side. Did Yamaha make improvments to the transmission? Also, does the 2004 model have a rev limiter for reverse?
Thanks,
IronBear

Hey bud....good too see you around. 02 up got lower 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear ratios and a better axle, a different rear shock, a steel rear subframe and some other small changes that resulted in about a 15 pound increase in weight and a reverse rev limiter. New graphics are pretty much the rest.

Hi Gary,
Thank you for the update. Do you know if there is an override on the reverse rev limiter? My Kawasaki has an override button which is a nice feature.
Thanks again.

I did a valve adjustment on an 04 and it seemed the ignition timing mark was closer to the TDC mark on it compared to the others. I wonder if they retarded the timing on the 04s. Anyone else notice this?

There is the kit, or I also know you can ground out a single wire, your reverse light won't come on anymore...but reverse limiter will be gone!! I'm not sure which wire it is exactly...my buddy did it on his rappy though...and all he does is leave reverse black marks on pavement and wonders why his tires are getting balder...lol
