Warn 424 Select Question
#1
I just finished up installing the 424 Select on my 2001 Wolverine. It went real smooth, anyone mechanically inclined could complete it in 2-3 hours.
Question: Is it normal to have to be running, under a load, for it to pull into 2 wheel drive nice and easy? I have to be moderately on the throttle, for it to lock into position easily. If I'm just rolling, off the throttle, it won't lock into 2 wheel drive.
While sitting still, with the engine off, I can "lengthen" the cable (by running the adjuster outwards) to the point where it won't lock into the 2 wheel drive position. I then shortened the cable by running the threaded adjuster inward (like the instructions suggest) to the point where it feels real smooth and locks easily. I have shortened it (ran the adjuster inward) as far as it will go, and anywhere in between, and It still won't engage if just rolling, off the throttle.
I have a nice gradual bend from the 424 unit, all the way to the mounting bracket.
Let me know what you guys think.

I have a '01 Wolverine with a 424 select and it does the same thing.
I think when trying to pull it out of 4wd the reason it dosent want to easily is because it has to slide splines apart to disconnect and if there is any pressure on them resistance will be felt. Just dont try to force it and it should be fine.

I just got back from riding with the 424 Select for the first time. What a difference being able to power slide and all. The Wolv is my first ATV, so I have not had any real riding time in 2WD.
I have to agree with you on the spline / gear theory. I really think my cable is adjusted properly, or it wouldn't pull into 2WD any of the time. It only "acts up" when I'm basically coasting, without any throttle. As soon as I add throttle, it pulls right into 2WD, smooth as silk.
It won't bother me, as long as I know the unit is OK.
Thanks for the reply.
