I hear if you do the timing change on the YFZ cam you move the decompression part out of whack, resulting in harder starting and possible battery/starter problems. If you buy the actual YZF exhaust cam you don't have that problem. Other than that, I don't know what would go wrong.

reading the board i have seen a couple of engine failures on the 450, and they all seem to say they have the cam mod done. i'm not saying they all do but could this be a possibility why some machines motors are failing? i may be wrong though, just a thought

the cam mod and the YZ exhaust cam result in the same starting "issue" on all the YFZ's that have had problems with starting. I am searching hard to find the fix for this. The cam mod is not the issue with the ONE engine I have heard of any problems. Selectors engine blew up for god knows what reason but the cam mod isnt the issue.

5 years in the making and 2 months out and everyone has mods that are not tested to work but they say it wakes up the bike, you are going to experience some problems and that's the bottom line,if you dident work in the R&D in yamaha you have no idea what you are doing to this engine.

If someone comes back saying that wasent the problem then you should have the answer on what is the problem..

I for one am definately waiting to hear any definitive info on the cam mod. I didn't spend 8 grand on a bike to do "test" mods on it. I will stick with the tried and true mods for now !!! (Pipe, jetting, air box, etc..) This bike is already fast enough for me!!!

But, to each his own........

Good luck to those who have done it!!

I Have done the cam mod with no prob's yet. As far as the starting goes some times when you hit the starter the compression stops the starter, hit it again and it is running.

yeah i got the same problem on my predator. selectors motor that went "ting" that could be from the result of a broken valve or something bouncing around the combustion chamber or it could be something else but everything is only speculation at this point. i'm just curious if what the people are doing to the cam is causing motor failure. maybe i'm wrong, and looking into this too much then again i'm right and the "cheap trick" cam is not the answer for cheap hp. what is the difference between the 450 cam thaat is stock and the gyt-r cam?

How many WR riders have done the cam mod on their bikes hmmmm? There's nothing wrong with the mod. One guy (me) breaks his motor and everyone thinks "it's the cam mod".

I wouldn't hesitate to do it on (10) YFZs.
