There are many better machines out there than the warrior. Starting with the honda 400ex. The Suzuki z400 is even better than the 400ex. Polaris 500 was a sport shoot out winner until the Yammy 450 came out. I have a raptor and it is an excellent 4 stroke do-it-all quad with a great big powerband. I think you will be disappointed with the handling and power versus many of the quads out there now. I had a warrior and liked it for awhile but wouldnt pick it today with the choices you have now.

the warrior is great for what you described but if you are buying new there alot of better quads that cost only a little more than the warrior.

If $$$$ is not an issue, then yes, a Raptor, Z400, or EX would have more power and better handling, but for what you can pick up a good used Warrior for, you can't go wrong. I ride mine everywhere, mainly trails, and have no problems keeing up with the pack, and hammering through the rough stuff. Good luck.
