Default O-ring vs X-ring chains ...

For you people that run sand only what kind of chains do you run? Is there a need to run a O-ring or to run a X-ring? What about just a cheaper normal chain?

I run a non O ring regina 520 gold. It's supposed to not have as much drag as an O ring chain and if you're keeping it clean and lubed for sand I dont really see a reason for the O ring. In trail riding I belive an O ring would be better to keep things lubed.

O-ring chains are the only way to go if you trail ride and hit mud and water. If you live where it is dry then a non o-ring chain will probably last. A lot of MX guys run non o-ring chains just because they free up a little bit more power. But, the conditions they ride in are kind of controlled compaired to Jow Blow the average trail rider.

I run DID ERTs on everything that I replace chains on. I still have my o-ring parts (and a couple masters) for the YFZ and will probably use it again. The DID ERT is a very good non o-ring chain.

That's one of the nice things about riding in Utah - very dry for the most part. At least where I ride.

I was thinkin like what Mr45 said about houw if your only gonna ride in the sand, which I am, then whats the use for the O-ring right? I think I ll go with Mr45s chain because we ride in the same area and conditions and if his is holdin up my should also.
