Default Two for One Question

Installed cam to instructions.
Battery has great voltage and connection.
I will run out there and check the relay with pliers in a sec.

On the 400ex is has great spark at the plug and checked all the connections.

Default Two for One Question

It should have clicked the same as before

Have you load tested the battery?(different than volt test?)

What cam did you install? If it is a hotcam II then the valve adjustment they call for is to much and won't release all the compression it needs to in order to start

I realy doubt its the relay...take volt test at each of those nuts. The second nut should have the same volt when you tap the starter button

Its the stage 1 hotcam. Valves should be set a little loose from specs. The engine was a little hard to turn over by socket, but not real bad. (I Think) I will do a volt test by the relay. Thanks.

You may need to check that decompression mechanism, it will need maximum juice to start with higher comp and brand new rings. With the decompression mech in right the motor should turn over raptor rather easily with a socket and half inch breaker bar - often the motor will roll on its own on the downstroke. You say its hard to turn over, that kinda concerns me.

anyhow, when a new motor runs you are listening for Everything and Anything that could sound funny. Its not uncommon to notice some ting and ping here and there when the newly mated components expand and seat themselves for the first time unless you hear some wicked clanging it will be hard to determine is something is wrong.

If the 400ex stopped really fast the flywheel key may have sheared and bumped the timing off. Try with some starting fluid. if you have spark and it doesnt fire with that **** I bet thats it. Especially if it sounds like it has good compression (sounds normal when cranking)

Default Two for One Question

Its hard to turn on the upstroke on the compression, rolls easy on the downstroke. No clanging, the rings and piston sounded wierd to me. But I've never started a newly rebuilt bike before.

Now should I pull start it to see if something else is wrong and not the starter system or is this a bad idea.

Dang Mr Olds. Your having some trouble with this one. It should feel harder to turn on the up stroke than the down, You say it spins down a little on it's own on the downstroke, that's good. You are turning this in a counterclockwise direction right? You swapped beatterys and it started right up you say? Were yoiu the one that turned it off after about a minute or did it shut off itself? You now say the relay just clicks, is that with the 400ex battery still installed or did you switch back after it started with the 400ex battery?

hecked wiring, swaped batterys. Turned motor over with socket. Cranked and fired and started very fast. Ran for about a minute, then shut off, sounded rough. Probably due to new and sitting. Now relay just clicks and the starter is very hot. Motor is hard to turn over with socket but will turn over. Could the starter be messed. Or something else.
