Default Raptor Elka rear linkage ??

Saw in Dirt wheels mag that Elka makes a rear linkage replacement that gives more wheel travel and lowers the ride height. It's on the Duncan race bike featued so I'm guerssing it must be useful. Anybody else have one ?

That needs to be investigated.

Yep - The mag article says "The Elka rear shock also has their new rear linkage system....." cost is $198........2 inches additional travel and plusher ride! Very interesting indeed.....

Hey,

The rear set-up is pretty much where I like it ! Unfortunately, when I hear that it's possible to get 2 more inches of travel for $200 my ears perk-up. Percentage wise that's fairly significant.

You know how it goes - never satisfied........

Here's the low-down from Elka.

They said that the linkage does indeed add 2" of wheel travel (up travel) and is bolt on. The only drawback is that the main spring must be replaced with a 9 inch long, single rate version with a spring rate matched to your riding style/weight (as usual). The standard spring is 8" and a dual rate. The reason for the new spring is that the dual rate spring is too plush at the extreme.

So, bottom line is: $190 (linkage) + $85 (spring) = $275

Not cheap but certainly tempting - aaargh - I finally got what I have kinda tuned to my liking - I dont want to start over....hmmmmm

Ridley - is it worth 2 extra inches ?

10-4, after I fix my one-way I might go for it......thanks for the feedback ! At least now I know which 8" spring rate suits my needs - Elka should be able to match it up in a 9" version.

Since the 9" springs are single rate (VS dual rate) I'm sure the progression will change but they didnt say how (compared to a 8" dual rate).......likely more trial and error. I gotta guess that if the "serious guys" use it it must work - but then again........?

I'll stick to my stock linkage that drops the rear 4' when flipped over to go with my front lowering kit.

If you do it Fisher, let us know what you think. Adding the +2 LS swingarm really calmed down the rear end of my Raptor. No matter how I adjusted the compression/rebound damping with the stock swingarm and a Mac Daddy Elka rebuild, it tried to buck me off in the whoops. With the +2 swingarm, I ended up with the compression up one click, the rebound down one click, and the rear end doesn't pogo around in the rough stuff like before. I suspect the spring rate was too stiff for the stock swingarm and the +2 added the right amount of leverage.
