I take it that this motor is pretty much the same H.P. as Ryan's 730 , but the better numbers, are from the Override tranny, custom Drag set-up, NOS,and wheeling bar. right? Or is this 730 WAY more powerfull than Ryan's730?

Set-up,Wieght,and a good rider are More important than motor in a 300ft sand drag. Speaking of, Who biult this Drag bike? I mean who biult the tranny, custom front end,and wheelie bar? I heard it wieghs in at under 300lbs(dry) WOW!

When can we expect to see this Rappy at ATOKA? TSD are alittle to far for me, but I can probably make it out to Atoka. I would really like to see this machine run.

Bigger.

Biggerisbetter- the 2 motors are different. One has a TI rod the other does not. The headwork is a little different in Kelly's quad. Kelly has 39mm FCR's and Ryans has 35mm. One is hi-comp the other custom low comp. I have no doubt that Ryan is about to get his moving. I believe he is ready to get rid of his crappy intake system. His quad was lowered and mean the other night. As soon as his new swing arm comes in i bet his times drop 2 tenths due to curing the wheely problem. Ryan drives it like he had to pay for it himself. lol

The quad weighs more than 300 pounds, has a starter, reverse etc. The tranny was done by another person and kelly did the front end himself. Bob and Jerry did the motorwork and then BOB assembled everything and put the motor in the frame. Bob will do override tranny's if anyone wants one.

This is the total package on a oem frame and motor.

Off nos this motor has 20 or more HP than any 4 stroke quad i have seen. I have always thought that DSmike's Blackie, Samcoeds 760, Jeffinthecity,Scooby, Dunedevil and the bom had all fourstroke quads covered until this monster was born. This raptor will whoop them all. It is about time a raptor was the TOP DOG. It took a while and we used to say DS's cost a lot to build up. LOL

I am sure that this CRAYCRAFT 730 will be at atoka sooner or later. The quads he runs with go there all the time. They run them all and i am sure Kelly will also. This raptor is faster than Azsands mouth in high gear!!

Mark - Is there anything about this build that would keep it from running MX? Does it get hotter than an aftermarket radiator would cool? It's got to have a decent bottom end with the big FCRs and high compression piston. We've got to find a way for the MX Raptors to compete with the YFZs, it costs so much to get them close. 15-20 more HP would end the discussion.

Ubetrn- This motor is friendly. It idles, does not heat up, i do not think you would trail ride with it though. A good low comp 727 might be a killer ticket except for the torque on bottom. wheelie out of every corner. This 730 was cranking to 12,500 rpm's last week end according to the on board tack and rev limiter. You can do a cam change on your 686 now that will allow you to get more out of your 35mm FCR's and add another 1500 rpm's on top easily. If you are dialed in there should be NO Way a yfz450 should be nipping on your tires. You probably need more RPM on top.

You better not worry about 15-20 more HP - the smarter move would be 5 more HP (or whatever it takes you to even out or just be above in the power/weight ratio) and to invest serious cash in the handling department. That is what is going to keep you up to snuff in MX. One cool thing about the 'Dales is that they are pretty damn good in the 300ft drag without too many setup changes, then you can MX them the next weekend, trail ride them the next, GNCC them the next, etc. Pretty good all around just basically a few changes and you are pretty mean with stock power or just a little more. A kid in PA ONLY drag's his Dale and he kicks some serious butt. Bottom end is stock with a Southbaymoto head mod. Spanks those mildly ported polishes 420 shees, built 400 scramblers, raptors, preds, etc. He says the 'Dale is the hardest front end he has ever ridden to keep down in a drag, but now I think he is running a +2 swingarm to help that a little and he definitely has it lowered some too. I'd be interested if someone actually wanted to invest in a 'Dale what they could come up with. SBM puts together very very reliable 'Dale motors that run 50HP so I would say if you wanted to get crazy 70HP isn't out of the question.

Also, any of you guys ever see one of the 785 V-forces at the drags? Just wondering how they compare.

Don't underestimate those YFZs, the few true 686 MX Raptors are not doing well against them on the track from the couple of boards I visit and increased number of used Raptor MX parts for sale. I would like a little more speed in 3rd (or nut up and run 4th:-) and a gearing change alone is not the way to get it, I've already tried and lost the gut wrenching launch of the low end. More torque would help with taller gears but it would be nice to get more out of the FCR investment than better throttle response. I'm still a bit rich on the top end but don't want to risk engine damage by dropping below tan plugs without a gas analyzer (145/148, OCMG 3rd clip from top, sea level, 60 degrees, DP9, K&N no lid). Cooking the porcelain on the stock plug at Budds Creek last month shook me up so I'm leaving well enough alone until this year's races are over. Then, I'm pulling it down to weld in some gussets and have the frame/a-arms/swingarm powder coated (black, red, chrome?). I was going to replace the one-way and install new clutch plates while the engine is out so it's ready for Spring. Although I haven't had a lick of trouble this season, I have been thinking a lot about that Ti rod and a higher compression piston. Bigger cam and new CDI wouldn't add that much:-) Guess it's time to talk to Bob.....will it be the World's Fastest MX Raptor?? Goodbye bonus:-)

thomez - If I have to spend more than the $ I already invested in suspension to keep up with a YFZ, this Raptor is getting retired from MX.
