can atv's actually be banned?
i was thinkin about it and it doesnt make sense to me. Maybe someone can enlighten me. I was thinkin about back in the day when i was oblivious to what quads were and i think after 89 race quads were illegal or something. If anyone knows the history to this id love to hear it. And now obviously since 99, quads are making a comeback. But i dont understand. How can they make atv's illegal because people get hurt? How can they ban them because kids are gettings hurt when riding five on one? Three wheelers i can understand cause the handling is a little unpredictable for the not so speed inclined. What is this bias against atv's.
If you buy a quad and get hurt, its not the quads fault. Most likely you were riding like an ass or just an accident occured out of your control. But thats a chance you take when getting on something that moves. And if u wanna go by that logic, how are crotch rockets excluded in the "dangerous" category? Lets see, Im 18 and if i get a rocket ill probably be going 180 most of the time (on empty roads of course). now im probably not gonna get one because i know ill do this if i do. But if i take a turn and lose control and kill myself, thats my fault for being a moron. If i buy a corvette and dont know how to take a turn and go into a wall at 150, thats my fault. NOT THE VETTE's!! I was just hoping someone could explain the legal logic behing this. And what bout dirtbikes, dirtbikes go faster and are more powerful than many quads, how come they never got banned? and u can be 8 and ride a 50 hp cr250 but if your 15 you cant ride a 15 hp quad. O, O, and snomobiles. those things do like 160. How are they different? Please, im not trying to start a stupid topic, but i dont know much about laws and i cant see how such a thing did and possible could happen. thanks for any replies. |
can atv's actually be banned?
theres nothing logic about it, some @ssholes just want to rid us of fun on quads, i have absolutely no idea why, and i agree, whats with these dirtbikes that can go like twice as fast as quads and some idiots want quads to get banned! a real good reason would definately clear things up, but i have yet to hear one.

can atv's actually be banned?
yeah cause i was fining out the history of quads when i was trying to find out why they stopped making the 250r if it was like the best quad in the world and i think the main idea was that kids got them and got false confidence or just were flat out idiots and got real hurt so they blamed the power of the quads. ok, thats completely possible. but 1) what about the dirtbike with the engine that the 250r borrowed or is equal to? Yeah, lets take away the quad, so that same kid when he recoups can go ride that same powerplant on a quicker lighter less stable foundation?!?!
2) most likely that kid that decided he had teh quad for two days and hes gonna fly down a trail with no helmet on and make a sharp turn and crashed in now old enough to drive. So he probably has some riced out civic or if hes rich he has a stang or wrx and thinks hes suddenly Rusty Wallace and flies around a turn and loses control. Are they gonna stop making powerful cars? Are the parents gonna sue FORD? i mean really, wtf?!?! |
can atv's actually be banned?
Dont get me wrong, i love dirtbikes and im happy they didnt take away those too. Im just saying, how can they consititute banning mx quads cause there too powerful when a kid that same age and/or skill level can go and buy that in two wheeled form? it just makes no sense at all

can atv's actually be banned?
thanks diescared.
I guess i just need to vent. I know atv's are a priveledge. I there every right for them to be taken away if that right is abused...as in individually on a case by case basis. I mean if i kid decided to set his partner on fire in chemistry class with a bunsen burner....are they gonna end lab class in chemistry? no, there gonna deal with that one kids situation (but these days, i wouldnt be surprised if they did) No matter what it is, paintball, quads, street racing....ive always tried to be smart, considerate, and not blatant about what im doing or the privelage i have. I have never used my gun to shoot at houses or people, have never purposesly went on or near peoples property and ripped it up or made noise, and i dont speed/race in neighborhood roads. I can do all three probably without getting caught but its just a di*k thing to do. But if a parent buys their 8 yr old kid a raptor and he/she gets hurt, why is the company being sued. If anything, the parents should be evaluated. And dont get me wrong, some 12 yr olds are more mature/skilled/deserving of a 660 than some adults. But its NOT the companies fault. Do u know how many people i see in cars that are just an accident waiting to happen. Trying to go all "fast and furioius" on the road. But what are u gonna do, say cars are dangerous and ban them? Its just like the saying goes, "guns dont kill people, dangerous minorities do" lol (sorry for the racist comment, but it just came to mind) most of the time its irresponsible people with guns that are usually doing something that they shouldnt be when gun accidents happen. This isnt to say that sometimes innocent kids/people dont get hurt and thats a damn shame. but most people that get severly hurt on quads especially the younger ones are riding too many p eople, too fast, without helmets, and without brakes and...trying to show off. Accidents do happpen to people that know what there doing and are being careful and thats part of the sport. But theres nothing we can do because age doesnt have much to do with maturity cause i can tell all of you right now when i was 14 i was more responsible then all these "mature adults" that drink and drive as a hobby. I dont know, but i can tell you that a motorcycle is no different than a quad or dirtbike. and i probably have better points to make but im tired and have many a tests to study for so i guess ill talk to everyone tomorow, gnite. |
can atv's actually be banned?
and if u wanna blame it on the kids, then make it have the same legal limits as a motorcycle. But ending sport quads all together, is this to say that a person who is legally capable of jumping on a 900cc 4cyl crotch rocket isnt capable of a 250r in such a way it endangers him?

and think about pro riders. Travis pastrana, jeremy mcgrath, tavis cain, etc. All these guys were on some sort of vehicles since they were little tikes. the later you start, the more danerous it is....in a way. if u do it since you learn to walk, its second nature!
Does anybody know the actual facts of how sport quads became illegal? do u guys think its possible to happen again. I think it would be really hard. Quads and even dirtbikes were nowhre near as popular then as they are now. Now u have videogames and tons of magazines. |
can atv's actually be banned?
I don't think a sport quad or even a 3 wheeler is illegal. I think the manufacturers agreed to stop producing the 3 wheeler before taking a chance that the CSPC would be successful making it illegal.
I think Honda decided to stop producing the 250r. No reason that couldn't start up production again. /Jon |
