Default Jetting??

This may sound like a stupid question but what do they mean when they talk about putting in different jets when it's colder, basically what does like a 280 main, or a 260 main mean? I've installed a stage II jets on my warrior, are they talking about like the specs before you put the jets in for ex. riding at 2000ft would be a different jet than riding at 6000ft, or do they mean the jet just has a big hole or passage?

Default Jetting??

Yes elevation as well as temperature play a BIG role in how a motor is jetted. The higher the elevation is where you ride the "thinner" the air is. Which will make your air/fuel ratio richer. In comparison the closer you are to sea level the leaner it will make this ratio. And in turn high humidity and hotter temperatures will make your motor run richer and less humidity and cooler temperatures will make your motor run leaner. So yes temps and elevation are very important to jetting, and if you really want to start confusing things..... Variables like track conditions, rider ability, and riding style all come into play for pin pointing jetting. Probably 1 in 10 bikes/quads out and about are actually jetted correctly. It kills me how often magazines/manufaturers offer jetting specs that may be completely off for the area that the customer lives/rides. The jetting spec sheet Should read something like this......."For fat a$# pokey magazine editor in 96 degree temps with 40% humidity and blue groove, so hard packed you could confuse it with asphalt......jetting specs are as follows....." Magazines post jetting specs because everybody is looking for the "easy" way to set up thier jetting. Truth of it all is that its a "trail and error" procedure........what? You mean its not cut and dry?........I wish! If that were the case MY quad would already be carberating perfectly, and I wouldn't have spent approx. 30-50 hrs adjusting the carb on my old Crf ALONE! Do have this down to a science? He!# no.....I just know enough to not be hosed into believing that these magazines, and manufacturers have the perfect answer to all my jetting problems. :ramble mode off:........Sorry to carry on, but to answer your question; yes altitude and temp make BIG differences in carb adjusting. Good luck and have fun! If we didn't like tinkering with motors we'd all be playing chess right now.....

Default Jetting??

i have another question, this maybe somewhat easier to answer. I have '93 warrior with a full FMF titanium exhuast, stage II jets, and a K&N with no air box lid. Anyways, but during mid-range throttle it tends to cut out or wheeze. In addition to when i'm running wide open in 6th it seems to pull hard then cut out for a sec. and if i let a little it will pull hard and then bounce back down. I was wonder what might cause this? does the warrior have a rev limiter it's bouncing off of? The air filter is thoroughly cleaned properly, carb is clean, and a new piston was put in about 3 months ago (i don't think the piston would have anything to do with it, but anyways). Any advice will be helpful, thanks, by the way my head gasket is bad, i'm replacing this weekend would that have any effect. I also doesn't want to idle for more tha ten or fifteen secs. (maybe timing) once again thanks.

Hold it right there! Yes that will definately have an ill effect. I wouldn't waste any time/effort with it until you get that problem resolved. In regard to the 6th gear wide open thing yes I believe your warrior does have a rev limiter, and if so I'd say its completely possible that your bouncing off the limiter. In conclusion I wouldn't waste any more time with the jetting until you head gasket resolved. Good luck.
