Linkage flip alternative?
#1
I made a search on flipping the lnkage on my raptor and i found it some had mixed fellings on doing it. So will a Dura blue lowering strut effectivly lower the rear end of the quad without affecting or damaging other parts and still being able to jump and ride agressively?
Here is a pic and some info on the Dura Blue Rear Adjustable Lowering Strut.
Thanks

I saw a write up in Dirt Wheels a couple months ago on a kids 250r with a Kx80 motor in it and they used the lowering strut on the rear. It was used for mx, so I would think that it would work?

Dirtwheels also did an article last month on the Dream Raptor that Duncan spent $24,000 on. They ran Elka suspension all the way around and also an Elka lower linkage setup on the rear that lowered the suspension I think between an inch or two, not sure. But Tavis Cain was airing it out big time at Glen Helen on it so I'm sure that one will work.

the Elka linkage will not lower the raptor but will add travel...it's trick (red anodized)...and you will need to change the spring(s) in your rear shock. the kit is like $250. if you already have the rear Elka they will just send you the springs to make the change. the Elka SSD shocks will lower your quad 2"

I flipped the linkage on mine and it never hurt anything. I still ride agressive, and do some minor jumps and it hasn't hurt anything. You drop 3'- 4' when you flip the rear linkage. Really helps the handling. Several people on this forum have done it and no one has had a problem yet.

I did it, but haven't had a chance to ride it yet. (in the shop growing to a 686 ) But I can tell that it did take away about 1.5" of travel in the rear shock......
I don't guess that matters considering you aren't supposed to jump with it any way.....?
it sure does look sweet though!

Y2JRaptor,
I'm not sure about the Elka linkage with a stock shock. I was talking to Jean and Ethan at the nationals two weeks agon about it. The linkage was designed for extra travel in conjection with an SSD Elka shock. I would suggest getting the Elka rear shock conversion kit. It is much less than a full Elka rear shock, but you gain much more over just lowering the rear. It is roughly $300. But one, it does lower the backend at least 2" with the SSD, but you also spring rates and valving for your riding style and weight and it greatly improves compression handling. I have yet to bottom mine out. You will notice that it is a stiffer ride in the woods, but mine is also valved for mx.
I have also run the Durablue lowering kit in conjuction with the shock, it was sick how far I could lower my quad, but this was for ice racing only. The lowering kit will affect how your shock rides because as you lenghten or shorten the treaded linkage it compresses and rebounds the shock. Not sure how I would like it other than for flat track or ice racing. Just my experience, good luck.

I have all the low down on flipping the linkage, however i need some feedback on the Dura Blue lowering strut, got some from rapguy buit i need some more..... I plan on running my stock rear shock with this lowering strut by dura blue, not the Elka linkage or the shock mod. Please reply
