First Oil Change on Raptor...Which Oil?
#1
I took my Raptor out for the first time this past weekend. Time for the first oil change. I'm most likely gonna use a regular Yamaha filter. I think thats all they have in stock at the local shop right now. What brand oil should I use? I would use Yamalube 10W30, but I seem to recall some people saying bad things about it. Temp will be 50 to 85 degrees so 10W30 should be good.
Also, what do you use to take off and put on the oil filter. I am going to buy a wrench that will fit it one of these days, but for now I have to make do with what I got (which is a ton of tools, just nothing that will fit this filter).

I'd say use either Yamalube or Torco. I say this because I've heard rumors that Yamalube helps the Raptor last longer when compaired to other oils. Torco I've been using for a long time (when I don't use Yamalube), it's kinda high in price but it's a very good high quality oil.

I use Rotella 15W40. I also use a strap wrench to get the filter off. Being your first oil change, I would recommend cleaning teh screen between the oil tank and the incoming line to the engine (bottom of tank) to remove any metal flakes or other debris that might have come from breaking in the engine.

I use the Yamalube.. I figure I only change it twice a year, the extra few bucks don't hurt
I bought a filter wrench at wal mart, in the oil fiter section, It's the smallest one they have 3 or 4 bux

Thanks guys. The only Yamalube they had was 10W50, so I got the only other oil they had which was Motul 5100 (i think) 10W40. They had an oil filter wrench that fit it for like $5 or $6 so I bought it. It was easy to do the change, but time consuming. It took me a little less then 1 hour. That damn skid plate sucks. I'm gonna cut it so I can get the wrench in there without having to take it off. I'll get the Yamalube next time I guess.
