Default engine first start

Just wondering what you guys think of spraying oil in the head around the cam since I jus tput the head on my warrior and it has not been started for 2 months. I also just put an oil cooler on it and did not want the head to be without oil while the cooler and lines are being filler.

Thanks
Ypman

You probably don't have much to worry about. If you'd like.. you can put some engine oil on your concerned parts but it won't take long for the oil to get to these areas. Just don't rev it for a bit... make sure and let the oil get to them before you get too wild.

pull the plug...then crank it over. this will pump the oil where needed, without allowing it to fire up and causing friction. good luck

thanks all for the replies.
Pulling the plug does sound llike a brilliant idea that I did not think of. I did the paranoid thing of taking the valve cover off and injecting oil all over the cam and rockers.
I then backed out the oil galley screw and started it to make sure oil was coming out. I turned it off after about 4 seconds because I did not see any oil. Then I read the manual which said if oil did not come out after a minute to turn it off. After this I started it for about another 4 seconds and then ALOT of oil GUSHED out. I probably lost 1/3 of a quart.

Then when I went to take it for a test ride, I rode for about 20 feet and decided the chain felt to tight. When I walked back to the car port to get the tools, I found this trail of oil all the way to my warrior. Upon close inspection, I found that the joint in the newly installed oil cooler hoses were never tightened. Boy was I counting my blessings.

So after tightening everything, it works perfectly. Runs a WHOLE lot better. Ticking option in the head is almost non-existant.

Sorry so verbose
Thanks again
ypman

Good job...a little over kill...but the end result is the same and thats all that counts. take the time and put a wrench on everything you touched next time. I can't tell you how many times i thought..hell..i coulda swore i remember tightening that bolt. but did'nt. Now...i go over everything before i throw my leg over the seat for a ride.
