My experience with WD-40 is that it is a short term fix at best. If it is already sticking replace it. It is cheap. If you would like to lube cables in the future, use a spray silicone lube. Silicone will not cause rust to form like wd-40.

One more thing, when you ask for advise like this in these forums, for the most part, you get what you pay for.

I thought that wd40 prevents rust. But if i was you yamahon i would just get a new cable.

I'm not sure. Ihad a friend that had the same problem, and we called to price it and I believe it was less than $20. As far as installing it, I am sure it is as simple as installing any other cable.
