Default Why do hubs get loose?

I was putting on my rear paddles when I felt a hub was loose, I took off the cotter pin, gave the castle nut 1/4 turn and put in a new pin, I remember tightning the nut when I changed alxes 4-5 months ago, the other hub was fine

With all the bouncing and vibrations things are bound to get loose...It's always a good idea to check all your nuts and bolts before every ride just to be safe...

With the Lonestar Axcaliber, the stock hubs would not stay tight. I could put them on with an impact gun or long cheater bar and they'd still wobble after a little rough riding. I even soaked them in red loctite, only delayed the wobble a few days. As Baldwin Racing suggested, I bought Durablue rear hubs because they have a steel insert for the splines. They stay tight - no wobble.

I put a 1/2" washer on before the nut and used an impact wrench on it. They haven't came loose yet. It seems the nut bottoms out on the threads before you can get it tight enough.

If you let the hub get loose for a little while and the splines get worn you can never get them to stay tight

Ubetran,
Thanks for the input I have a 2001 Alba Raptor and have an excalibur axle on the back with stock hubs. The hubs have slight free play (very minor) . It is irritating. I took the hubs off today greased them up slapped them back on then put the nut on with medium loctite as the manual suggests.
I am now going to buy the durablue rear hubs so there will be no wobble AT ALL.
Thanks
