03 Grizzly 660 won't start
I have had my Grizzly 660 for just over a year. I had the 10/12 hour service done last year at about 53 miles...(Currently do not have a place to work on it, so I have the local dealer do the gig) I currently have 263 miles her and now she won't start.. She did sit for 3 weeks but I have not had this kind of issus sense the 10/12 hour service. What am I missing here?
Thanks Guys and Gals:-) TF |

What is it doing? Is it turning over at all? If it is, does it pop like it's trying to start?

She turns over and pops every once in a while but just won't get running.. Also there are no blockages in either intake or exaust

Well i would start with the basics. Is it getting gas, Is it getting good spark? How old is the Gas?
try pulling the spark plug out, see if it is wet with fuel. Then ground it out and turn the engine over to see if it is getting good spark. I had the same problem with my raptor last year and I changed the plug, cleaned the airfilter, and put new gas in it. That seemed to clear up the problem. Also where do you live? Has there been a drastic change in temp lately? |

Ya I covered most of the basics, the only thing I didn't do was pull the plug.. I live in NE Ohio and we did have a big drop over the last 2 weeks or so.
So maybe a fresh plug and a change of gas, and she will be ready for winter riding? |

yeah thats where I would start. even before that pull the air filter and spray a little starting fluid through the carbs. that might get ya going.

Change the plug. Even if it looks like it is sparking it may still be bad. I don't know if this is reccomended, but you might try a short squirt of starting fluid, but before you do, get some advice frome someone with more experience with quads. I have used it on my Raptor and my Honda fourtrax when it has been very cold and my battery is low.

Just a shot, but unscrew the gas cap leave it off and try to start the engine. When the temp drops the gas in the tank contracts and can cause vaporlock. Even though you have fuel in the tank the gravity feed can't overcome the suction of the lock. If that doesn't work proceed below.
When you crank over the engine for a few seconds do you smell raw gas in the tale pipe? If you don't then crank it for a few seconds more. Remove the spark plug and see if the plugs'electrode is wet with gas. If it isn't you have a fuel problem. If the plug is dry then with the spark plug out pull the pull start and see if the engine turns over easily. This will show you how the engine with no compression feels like. Next push the spark plug into the plug wire boot and with gloves on hold the plug next to the engine block away from the spark plug hole. Crank the engine over with the starter and you should see a healthy fat blue spark across the electrode, if you don't you have an ignition problem. If you have fuel and spark install the spark plug and torque to spec. After that try to pull start the engine again, if you have good compression it will be hard to pull. Plesae post back with what you find. |
