Add another 01' to the list

The other day I was out riding at little sahara UT after I just got my raptor up and running after a blown headgasket. It was running better than ever when I took off creeping a long in second. I nailed the throttle and was just ready to shift when the bike dies locks up the back tires and allowed me to join the over the bars club. I got up pissed as hell that what I thought was the engine seizing was actually the tranny locking up. It still starts but won't shift and won't roll at all. Is this what happens to all the other 01' trannies that go south?
sorry about the novel I had to write
Selector was there that day, that 467 of his is impressive

Yes, 50% of the time they lock up.
in your case the engagement dogs broke off, the shiftfork holds it all together, you go to shift and the broken pieces are released and lock the whole tranny. sometimes they just fall to the case floor.
