'04 YFZ Hot Head!

So,..I got this awesome quad that is great except at temperature the Head Pipe glows like a campfire at night.
I think this has to do with the fuel-air mixture, but what where should it be set.
I ride mostly between 1500-3500ft.
Right now it is all stock, no add-ons yet. breaking it in at stock before I add an exhaust.
Where should I set the mixture screw for where I ride?
Thanks

Hey Ace !!!
I live in LA and ride at Gorman, Cal City, Glamis, etc... This is how my bike is set up and it doesn't run that hot and haven't noticed the head pipe glowing that much. And, it runs like a scalded cat.>!!! I think your problem may be from running a little on the lean side ...???
GYTR pipe, open air box, GYTR dual stage flter, 170 main, 48 pilot, GYTR needle on the middle, air screw 3 turns out.
Let me know how it works out for you. And PM me If you want to ride sometime!
Take Care,
Russ

Thanks 660!
That looks like a nice addition and easy to use.
I'll have to get one. I could certainly use it at the differnt places I ride.
Poolhustler,
Thanks for the info. I adjusted the screw the other night to 3 full turns out from stop, a buddy has the 2003 YZ450 bike and his runs good like that, and it was hot as hell. Right now I am stock, and gonna be like that for a little while, so I'm trying to work with what I have.
I have already removed the airbox cover, so maybe that might be adding to the issue. Too much air, not enough fuel.
How does this set the mixture, the owners manual sucks for an explanation.
More in = Less fuel?
More out = More fuel?
I'll holler at you about riding. Looks like sometime near, or after X-Mas.

You said your machine was stock. Removing the airbox lid is not stock. If you are not going to rejet NOW, put that lid back on. Your red header may go away and you may have a quad that lasts more than a few weeks. Just thought you should know running without the lid and NOT jetting the carb will probably kill your bike rather soon.
