High Comp Piston failures?
#1
I've seen a few of these reports on the forums here lately. Whats the deal? How many of you have had them let go? Toying around with the idea of an 11:1 piston being one of my mods in the future, but not if its gonna be breaking on me?

Just remember the higher the comp ratio the higher octane gas you must use.
A lot of high comp piston failures are from using low octane fuel and
getting detonation on the compression stroke, which blows the top out of the piston.

I have heard about this also.............and what skeeeeers the crap outta me is all of the cases I have heard of, have IDENTICAL pistons as mine!!!!
102mm 11:1
but the only two that I have heard of sound like they are running fuel with too low of an octane rating
I run 93/c12
50:50
and I'm going to start with a little nitro very soon
I guess if this piston gives then that will just be an excuse to go bigger........

I have that piston and run 91 in it. I tried 91 with C12 mix this last weekend and all I really noticed is that my six pack rack got a tan with the mix. I did put a new plug in so I can compare the two. The guy that did the work on my motor said is was not needed, but I could give it a try just to see if it made a difference. I don't think it made any big difference. JMO
