Wolverine help ???????????????????
#1
Hi,
I am looking at buying a 95 wolverine for $1250.
It runs and drives but has no serious power. The guy bought it that way thinking it was a carb problem, he took a couple of carbs off a big bear and warrior and it did nothing. So he rebuilt the motor with piston and rings. it did a little bit but not much. so he took it to the local dealer who test the coil, acc pump, timing, looded over the wiring. and determined the probable cause to be the CDI, they said on the Wolverine it advances the timing and that is the cause but of course cannot guarantee it so you buy the cdi and it does not fix it your stuck. I have the reciept from the dealer and have talked to the dealer and he veified the story. The machine is in nice condition. The guy has decided to sell it to me rather than spend the money on the CDI.
My questions are this.
1. Does this CDI fix sound legit, I always thought if a cdi went out it would not run at all???
2. I would like to buy it because its cheap and I want something that is sport and utility. will this machine be able to plow snow, i understand its not a kodiak or a grizzly but will it get the job done.
I appreciate any advice you can give me,
Mike in southern MN

If the machine is in good condition then it doesnt sound too bad. I dont know, I thought the same thing about the CDI unit but Ive never had any experience with them so all I can do is take the dealers word for it. Wolverines are pretty straight forward and not that hard to work on if something does go wrong though.

I have drove it some more and it really starts nice, pops right off every time. It bogs out
and pops when you punch it though. If you get the rpms up slowly it does have a bit of snap in the upper range. Really seems like a carb issue.
Help!!!!!!!
Plug is black soot but not oily.
What is the stock jetting and clip position for a 95 Wolverine???
How do i check the accelerator pump ????

When I got mine it ran fine, I didn't know anything was wrong. (I was 16) - Then my buddy came over that had one and he'd smoke me like I was on a Breeze. Turned out the plastic plunger thingy in the carb was in like 6 pieces - had the carb rebuilt and it ran like a raped ape. Sounds like a carb issue to me and it could be that plunger, it's probly due. If it is messed up it will run just not very damn good.

Thanks for the tip I'll check it out but you will have to be more specific on what part the
"plastic plunger thingy"IS in the carb so i know what to look for, do you mean the choke plunger????????
Also someone mentioned the screen in the tank might be plugged so i'll check that out.
Did you get much power out of the DG exhaust and where did you see the gains????
I have not heard alot of good things about DG when it comes to some model ATV's how does it stack up to other brands??

It is a plastic plunger about 2 inches long maybe and an inch in diameter .. I don't know the proper name but maybe someone here does. Mine was in multiple pieces.
As far as the exhaust, it was on there when I got it so I don't know how it stacks up. My mom rides it now more than I do so getting more power isn't really a concern. She probably wishes it was stock so it was nice and quiet. Oh well, I like the rumble
