I just got it back from the shop and had pretty much the entire motor redone... Does anyone have any suggestions on breaking it in again ? cause that may have been the original problem , I have been running it up and down my driveway for the last 3 hours at 1/2 to maybe 3/4 throttle .. any other suggestions ?

Break it in like you ride it. If you ride easy, break it in easy. If you ride wide open, then break it in wide open. No point in riding it any differnt then what you will ride it next week, or the week after.

Yes, I am with Yamaha660R, its better for it to break now while its under warranty then later. I have never broke in a 4 stroke motor before. Only 2 strokes I have had.

Theres alot of controversy as to the "right" way to break in a motor. I don't think theres really a right or wrong way to break in a motor. I always followed my manual some what loosely. I would ride it easy like they say, but I'd also punch it, and rev it hard than they recommended during break in. I have also just "broke it in" as I rode and just didn't dog it hard until after 2 or 3hrs. In both situations, 10yrs. of top-end rebuilds I've never had a mechanical failure. *knock on wood* I think its trivial, just allow your motor to have some "cool down" periods, and don't just completely dog it until you've gotten 2-3hrs on it.

Yeah i agree too. just don't do what you did last time and blow it up again ~ lol
Ya know i'm just kidding Gary. you should bring it down to the lakewood track and you can ride it the way it was meant to be ridden. i'll meet ya there if ur game !

I ride my quads pretty hard as well, but pussyfooting around now will probaly be just as bad as when you finally start giving it hell. I would really break it in pretty hard if you ride hard. Maybe not as hard as what you will once it breaks in, but there is no reason to be easy on it now, and hard on it later.

I think the best bet is to avoid idling, let it cool down after about every 30 mins, check fluids, and vary the RPM's. Change the oil after a few hours and let her rip.

I always followed my manual. It worked for me. i took it easy for the first tank and on the second i started to ride harder. Make sure you let it cool between rides. Ride for 20 min let it cool. And repeat this for 2 tanks. I changed my oil after the 2nd tank.
Now ride as hard as you want. I also let it warm up good before giving her hell.
The reason you take it easy for the first 2 tanks is there are high spots on everything in the engine, witch gets polished by running. if you ride to hard every think heats up to much and starts to gall up. slower where is better and make sure you change your oil to get out all the particles. I did it this way and have had no problems. Good luck.
