Z-400 or Raptor?
#1
Hey guys,
I am trying to decide between the 2004 Suzuki Z-400 and the 2004 Yamaha Raptor. Does anyone have any non-bias opinions between the Z-400 and Raptor? I plan on using the bike for primarly trail riding and off trail use, include some mud. But I do enjoy hill climbing and some jumping.
I know I don't want the YFZ450 because it is designed for track use and is rougher riding bike, so please don't even bring it up.
Thanks!
Hil

Humm, Is cost a big issue? If not go with the rappy i hear it climbs very well and its faster..
The Z400 can do everything a rappy can just maybe a little slower (not to offend anyone) but its the better bang for your buck and handles better..
Hope this helps...

i own neither and have seen both run against each other. couple guys we ride with. the guy with the Z400(KFX400 in this case) has no mods but pipe, jets, and filter. the warrior is bone stock except for some holeshots, renthal bars, and beadlocks. the kfx400 can kill it in the trails, and comes dang close in drag races.
IMO more bang for your buck with the KFX

I can tell you first hand on this, because my best friend has a Z400. He has the Alba Stage 3 kit, durablue lowering kit...I have the Alba Stage 3 on my Raptor with CFM lowering kit, and my Raptor is faster, and climbs better then his Z. If you want to see pic's of both, just follow the link in my signiture and click on fun in the snow.

Money is not really an issue, because there is only like a $400-$500 price difference between the two. I can get the Z for $5299 and the Raptor for $5899 (before haggling ). Feature wise they are almost the same other than the larger engine in the Raptor. Maintenance wise is one better than the other? Which one would be better for long trail rides? Which one can go farther on a single tank of gas?
Thanks!

The Z I believe will go a little further on a tank of gas, but in all reality they will be about the same. As far as maintenance I think the Z is alittle better, simply because my buddy has an 02 Raptor that he always has taken apart because some thing is broke. I'm sure that his situation is just a one-in-a-million thing, but that's what I'm basing my statement off of.

Maintnance wise.......Defitantely get the Z. I loved my raptor, but everytime I rode the thing it seemed I had to replace something else. Plus the Z handles MUCH better. And before some of the guys jump down my throat here I'll say this is stock vs. stock. Anything can be made to handle better with wider A-arms, and an axle. But from what your saying your going to do with it I don't think you want to go wider. The Raptor has MUCH more torque, but at the disadvantage of handling. I'd go for the Z.
