TRX-YFZ rider review

kuz28- How much of a difference would a thicker seat and taller handle bars make for the Yamaha? Are there any after market companies making more padding for the yamahas seat?
Maybe the new suzuki 450 in a year or so will have the performance and handling of the yamaha, but the ergos and comfort of honda.....hmmm....

I have a TRX, and have spent several hours riding a friends bones stock YFZ.
I liked the YFZ in the open desert and dunes. It jumps well, and the suspension really soaks up the whoops. The wide front end makes it corner at speed, like it is on rails. But absolutely HATED it on the trail! The ride was rough, and the pipey (hits in the middle) powerband doesn't make for easy trail riding.
The TRX chassis/suspension makes a better trail bike, but it is GEARED WAY TO TALL for the trail! But, if geared down, it might also be so torquey that the front end will be hard to keep down???? This thing climbs tall, scarry hills, like they are nothing and eats big whoops for breakfast. Have not had it out to the open desert or dunes yet, but it should make a great open country bike. As for the trail, I have a Rancher, Z, or EX I can ride there, and all that 450 power is just wasted on the trail anyway.
I would say both bikes remind me of the BLASTER more than anything else. (A really plush Blaster that is!) Light, agile, and tons of fun to ride! Haven't had this much fun in years.

Dirthead: Quadtech makes a smokin seat for the YFZ they can add and actually are requested to remove padding in most cases. of course this is for the MXers. you can also go with lower pegs...which is what i've done(AC pro-peg-nerfs).
i've asked around and apparently +1 steering stem with cr double high bars is the combo people seem to like for the YFZ.
