Check mine out...I believe this is the most modded you can make the stock setup.

There are a few options. One is to remove the top and run an outerwear. Another is to drill holes in the top, holes in the sides, or holes all around. Or you could remove most of the airbox all together. All preferable with an outerwear. If you plan on riding in wet weather, i would at least keep the bottom section together. Drilling holes in the top or just removing it all together should give you good power increases without risking engine damage. I had the lid off mine all summer and never had a problem. I live in michigan so there are lots of holes and puddles.

Are you getting the regular k&n replacement or are you getting the pro-flow or gyt-r adapter? If was doing what your gonna do, I'd keep the box, remove the lid in the sand and put it back on in the wet. The thing with that is you'll probably have to rejet each time. Another option would be drilling holes in your airbox...That way you still have protection against water, but still have more air-flow...and not have to rejet each time you remove/add the lid...

what i have on my mind right now is just drilling holes on the lid when i am in mud and water and then at the dunes i was going to take the lid off. i took the lid off when i had my honda and ran ok with out rejetting. i dont mind changing the airbox each time if it is a easy swap. I just want to get the most horsepower i can out of the machine when i get my full system!

I think ehsracing.com has something i have seen that i have liked, but not looking to spend that much money for. but something like that would be great but not for 70 bucks.

I like bigbubba's idea and went and cut mine as well. I also fabbed out a piece of aluminum and rivetted it to the side of the (whats left of it) airbox to guard against the exhaust. check out my pics on my page.
