Shifting from 1st to 2nd too much was not an issue with the 15/39 for me. There were times you might have to shift between the two gears but it didnt seem too often. Bikes respond to gear changing a little different so I would get a 14 and 15 and try it out for myself and see what you think. My setup is a little different than yours so your bike may respond a little different. Hope this helps in your decision. Slim

ok thanks slim, I appreciate everyones help. I will try a few different things and see how they work.
