try one of these

Dazzle Digital Video Creator 80

Pinnacle Systems Dazzle Digital Video Creator 150

I have the 80 and it works prety good.. the image quality isnt as good as
the 150.. but its allows me to play with video off our older video camera or
vcr...

Sears also has them

That's a capture device and even easier than opening up your PC and sliding the card in since it's an external device that transfers via USB cable, you will also need a editing program, Pinacle has a nice one, WindowsXP has one built in, and Adobe has some really good ones.

it comes with Pinnacle studio 8 and Pinnacle hollywood fx software, not sure how good it is
but it seems to do the trick, as far as adding titles and fading of scenes in and out...

I use the pinnacle linx cable usb device and the pinnacle studio software to edit and create. I have the older style VHS-C camcorder and this is easy to use. I got it at Comp USA for like $49 a couple years ago.

If you do not have firewire...then you could always use s-video (if your camera supports it). You will need a video card or tv tuner for your pc though.

ok here is what you need.

i do this for my movies, and can get dvd quality, and also for work

i can put
tapes, records, vhs, onto a dvd, and redo the waves, and digitize them, and add dvd quality with chapters.

i am running this setup

P4 2.7ghs
1gb of rm rad
dual 100gig drives
dvd burner
*ATI RADEON 9800 AIW*500$ CARD..
and a bunch of other go fast goodies.

Hard ware---you are going to need a ati tv wonder, or tv wonder VE in order for you to plug rca plugs into your comp.

Software--- Pinicle works ok, windows movie makers seems ok. i use Ulead DVD movie factory- for DVD quality video and sound that wat i can watch it in my dvd, with some ol' pop corn- and you can DL it free, PM me if you want the licence to run it.....

dont go cheap trust me, only go ATI- hands down the best equipment.

if anyone is interested i have a BRAND NEW ATI RAEDON 9600 PRO, nib for sale, insane graphics and bandwidth, your system will look insane, (water looks like real water).
