Raptor first mods
#1
Well looking through Dennis Kirk mag for the last two hours of work, I am thinking about purchasing the K&N Stage II kit. Anyone messed with this kit? I can always get a full exhaust later on and get bigger jets for it. Also, anyone have any pistons installed with a higher compression rate? They had some in their with like 11.5:1 compression, are Wiseco a reputable corp? Thanks
I have one complaint about the raptor. After riding a good couple of weeks, and coming from owning a blaster, I think I would rather have a two stroke for trail riding. I am having to shift between 1st and 2nd too much on the rappy, but damn on the straights the power is amazing, it just keeps coming. When turning corners though it is wanting to tip a little, would it helped if i softened the suspension? Thanks

Two critical mods to make your raptor better:
For trail riding drop the Countershaft sprocket down to a 12 tooth. It make a WORLD of difference. You will only need first for the tightest trails.
And second, get a Pro-design intake system for your Raptor. Don't even waste your time with the worthless stock design. Its a joke. The only thing that holds your filter flush against the seal is a cheesy lip on the box lid. The Pro-design gives you a SOLID mount point, and no more dirt, and crap getting into your motor.
Exhausts, suspension upgrades, etc. They all can wait. First get it gear right for your conditions, and protect your motor from pre-mature engine failure. An exhaust is a GREAT upgrade and makes the raptor feel like a whole new quad and the suspension is a welcome addition, but if you widen it you really limit your ability to ride in the woods/trails unless they're wide open trails. I widened my raptor(when I had it) just by 2", and it would rub in the tight spots of the trails. Not to mention I couldn't even fit through with the +5" I had from my wheel spacers.......

Look in the magazines and, get your self a nice combo package of Pipe, Proflow Air filter plate, K&N (or, comparable) filter and, a jet kit. This will really breath life into your stock "restricted" quad. You can get all these things in a package for $500-600 shipped to your door and, it will make a ton of difference. I still ride my stock width on my Raptor and, it doesn't feel tippy to me, i'm sure if it were wider it would slide better though. I believe the tippyness people talk about is due largely to the soft side walled stock tires.
