the cheapest power is -----> k&n air filter----> pipe---->and jet it out.. It all depends on how you ride it, where, and how often... especially how advanced you are----> are you going to race in motocross and jump and fly 6 bazillion feet.. or are you going to drag race it at a zillion mph or ride it stock with your friends at the same speed?

That depends on what your definition of "major" is.
New air filter - K&N prodesign kit - 150 bucks or so. new airbox wouldnt hurt either, 200
New full pipe - Curtis Sparks X-6 or CT, about 5-600 bucks
New cam - Hot cam, web cam, or megacycle/sparks cam, depending on your application - 150-300 dollars
New piston - 10.75:1 all the way up to 14:1 or maybe even more. About 200 with a gasket kit, more for the 13 and 14 ratios and larger bores.
Then the Big stuff
Port work
Big bore
turbo
engine swaps...

i am a very experienced rider..been riding since i was 5 and i'm 23 now... so that should help..
mainly some HARDCORE trail riding, and a few sessions at the track so i can practice with my bro who races...
so power is key...
