Default building custom a-arms

Hey I'm going to have a shop build me some custom long travel arms. Are there any super important aspects I should keep in mind? I know I'll have to upgrade the brake lines, etc. I'm going to run some Lt elkas. Also, does anyone know where I can buy single ball joints/heim joints/king pins and which of the last two would be best for hard hits/ big jumps? I plan on having a pretty strong arm built. Couple weeks away I'm guessing, but anyways...any info would help and I'll post pics when I finally get them done.

Sounds like a pretty sweet idea, About the ball joints, you can find some a-arms off ebay (stock), and use the shock mounting brackets and the ball joints from them, GL.

Thanks for the info..i saw on some website where I could get kingpins for a-arms..they're pretty damn strong so I'd probably do those..and the shop has a bunch of computerized stuff and he could duplicate them and make em strong. Where the long travel bends you know? Im gonna have flat iron in the shape of a long triangle welded vertically there, so that bend for the LT isn't a weak point...They should be pretty cool if it works out right..

MAke sure you go to a good shop ! First thing you need to use 4130 Chromemoly 0.090 wall min. thicker wall wouldnt hurt . Biggest problem most fab shops dont have benders that can bend chromemoly tubing with out wrinkling it . It takes a special bender with close tolernce bend cage . I know because I have one it's a pro-tool bender I can bend 1" chromemoly in a 4" radius with no wrinkles smooth as silk .
Anyway if your going long travel you need to make sure that your not going to bind up your ball joints .
ASR out of utah makes some pretty descent Heim joint style ball joints wide range no binding .
Second of all watch your angles the gull wing design if you look at it only has one advantage it allow you to put a longer travel shock on and keep the mount on top of the a Arms .
You will soon see some of my design a arms with the bend going up giving higher clearence in the center of the machine and I drop the shock mount out the bottom exact same travel geometry with more ground clearence under the center .
When you are ready to weld up your arms make sure they purge weld them . Make them run inert gas inside the tubing while there welding it . This sheilds the inside so the weld is as strong inside as outside .

Good luck
