I usually use Hondabrite unless it's really messy...then use the Castrol Superclean.

Then I use a product by Silkolene called ProPrep to shine it up. This is the same stuff that dealers use to make their used units look new. This product can be sprayed on both plastic and rubber. Makes hoses and tires look new and doesn't leave them oily like ArmorAll.

I used Simple Green and it is increadible but I have a question to ask and maybe Knowsalot could answer this:

I have heard the shock seals, especially aftermarket shock, are very susceptible to some clearers in that they cause them to dry rot. Is this true?

CAUTION, DANGER

Simple green is a wonderfull cleanser and should be used for HOUSEHOLD useage ONLY.

I wrote this for a different thread asking the exact same question.

I am a Federal Training Instructor and am using the NAVAIR 1A-509 manual for this reference.

Simple Green has been shown to cause adverse effects on aircraft metals. it is FORBIDEN to use any kind of cleanser not specificly made for them. Why is this important for us atv users? Simple. This and simular products case a condition called Hydrogen Embrittlement on High Strength Steel. basicly it causes steel to FAIL at only 10% of its rated tensil strenght. Also, this product has been shown to cause Galvinac Corrosion on aluminum metal and prevents paint from adhearing and will check plastic and painted surfaces.

Simple Green is Wonderfull for its intented applications. I highly reccomemnd it for cleaning messes on floor, wipping grease off the stove and at least 1,000 other places. I would NEVER use it on my quad, especialy axles, springs, frames etc. Once steel is embrittled it can NEVER be returned to original condition.

Be carefull and use products made for the proper intended usage.

Just use some good ol' soap and water, and when it's dry, put some mop-n-glo on the plastic. Kind of hides small light scratches and makes them shiny and perty

I use some stuff called Thunder Blast. It cleans like Simple Green. When you rinse this stuff off the plastics, the water beads up really good.

I use a cleaner with CITRUS to soak before washing. Some cleaners will dry rot rubber, hoses, seals etc. Citrus will not. Another good idea is to spray your quad with PAM, the cooking spray, before you ride. The dirt has a hard time sticking and it be a hell of alot easier to wash.

Very interesting. I've been using simple green for yrs, and know TONS of people that use it as well. Plus all the people around the good ol' US that I'm sure are using it. Not discrediting you, but if this is such an issue, how come no one has ever been informed of it before. And wouldn't it be advised on the bottle to not use this product on automotive engines, etc.? Again not discrediting you, but do you have any idea the amount of people that use this as well as like cleaners on their atv's, bikes, automobiles, etc. Man people use this stuff for everything. I'm not really all that worried about it as I said I've been using it for over 10yrs, with no ill effects, but if there is truth to this wouldn't it be worth someones while to inform everyone?
