95 Wolverine Questions

Trying to help my buddy get his bike fixed.. Problem he is having is when he stabs the throttle if either just about dies or it will barely run.. if you gradually bring the throttle up it does just fine. We tried richening & leaning out both the needle & air/fuel mixture nothing seam to work. I did notice his valvles seam to be pretty noisy, could he just need a valve adjustment? Mid & top end is fine, problem only occurs from a stop.
Also he seams to have 2 different filter elements in his airbox, is this the stock set up for the wolverine, seams pretty restrictive.
P.S. We also ran the bike without an air filter & did the same thing..

Sounds like your carb has something clogging it up. Take the bowl off and clean it out real well. May be water or trash clogging the fuel and keeping it from gettting gas. What size jet are you running now and what is the stock size? Does it do better with the choke on?

I just had the same problem with my 95. The 95's use a flat-side carb. (maybe they all do?)
Im quessing your accelerator pump is stuck in. Easy fix. Remove the black plastic "flat -side" cover from your carb. You will see the plunger and the arm thats actuates it. Free it up and you are good to go.

Just about all 95' Wolverines were like that. The problem lies in the pilot jet, its too lean. This contols the fuel at low throttle positions. You probably have a 36mm carburetor vs. the new 34mm carburetors dont you?

found out the pilot jet is a 42 that he's got in there, I guess stock is a 40 so he was going to give that a shot.. Not sure what size carb it has on it.. Were at elevation of 5000ft so I would assume the 42 is to rich. Also going to look at the accelerator pumb & see if its stuck..
what a bout the air filter, Is there suppose to be 2 elements in there for filtering the air?? seems awfully strange to me.. He bought this ATV used so who knows what the guy before did to it..

Warriors and the 95 Wolverines suffered from stuck accelerator pump rods, the spring that holds it up is very weak, the fix is to take the spring out of a click type ink pen,it is the same size, but about 5 times stronger, it will keep the rod from hanging up, without the shot of gas, when you hit the throttle, you go way lean, that's why it bogs so bad. You may also find you need to adjust the pump arm that pushes on the accel rod, to get the best throttle response. I wouldn't go up on the pilot jet, you are probably too rich to begin with, but there is little size changes available for that carb.
