I do agree with the pipe, tires, and one-way bearing. Baiter the stock one-way bearing on the raptor is a joke. They ALL fail. A one-way bearing is what is used by the starter motor to turn over the crank to start the motor. Unless your planning on being a desert/gncc racer, I think that the stock suspension will be fine for you. But a good set of razr's, holeshots, klaws, etc. a good aftermarket pipe, and some skid plates would be a very good addition to a woods ride.

If you are going to be riding cross country with wooded/rough terrain I would have to say to get yourself larger profile tires from stock or even larger rims/tires. Also you are going to NEEDneed skid plates for the whole underside of the quad. Thats what you will NEED to really maintain your raptor. As for some of the mods listed above that is all about what you WANT.

I race a Raptor in the GNCC atv series, and I do alot of trail riding in Michigan. If I were to start over with a new quad this is the order of importance I would place on mods.
1) Good skid plates. If you hit any size rock at speed, the stock plastic plates will not hold up. A cracked case or a bent sprocket make for a very long walk out of the woods.
2) Good tires. Razr2's are the best I've used, especially in rocky or muddy or loose conditions. I now get stuck in the mud about 1/2 as much as with the same size stock tires. The Razr2's last quite a while, too.
3) Good suspension. I recommend any brand of no-preload shocks, Elka SSD being a great choice. They are expensive, but the handling difference is amazing! The SSD (zero preload) device allows the shock to sag a bit into the travel. On my quad, depending on how I set it up, it lowered it about 2"-4" all around. And you don't run into any of the large # of problems you have with lowering kits or lowering blocks.
These mods will let most any rider go 100%. For woods riding, I would master riding with the stock power before you move up in power mods. I get beat all the time by guys riding 300 ex's and blasters because they are great riders and in great shape. My quad is faster and better handling than theirs, but I am a C class or novice rider.
Good Luck and PM me if you want any more info.
