rapboy have you adjusted the valves?

 

No, not since i bought the quad (30 hours ago)

okay so now that im going to take it all apart should i adjust them or replace them? also would it hurt the engine any way if i dont to it?

 

Just adjust the valves and see how it runs, it's not a big job.

 

Is it hard to do yourself... i dont really have a lot of mechanic work. how long does it take and what tools do i need im looking at raptortranny.com but it doesn't tell me

 

Here's a few tips.
The intakes tend to tighten up. here's the tools needed and a few tips.

Tools
Torque wrench
5mm allen socket
10mm socket
19mm socket to turn engine
10mm, 17mm wrenches
The tool to turn adjuster would be nice but I use needle nose pliers
Angled feeler gauge .005" intake .007" exhaust
Big flat head screw driver to remove timing covers

Turn engine over counter clockwise when aligning the timing marks. After your intakes open then close it's about a half turn of the crank to align the marks. There are two sets of marks that look like this ( ll and l ) use the (l) mark you'll come to the (ll) marks first.

When making the adjustment I snug the lock nut just enough that I can still turn the adjuster. Then snug the nut down a little more with a wrench while holding the adjuster so it does'nt move, then torque and recheck clearance.

 

okay this seems pretty easy but do i adjust the exhaust too? or just the valves? what if i mess up and do the exhause and not the valves? If i screw up will i regret that i did it in the first place? By any chance do you know how much the dealer will charge? Thankyou so much for your patience -Matt-

 

Appraptor, Mickey is right. The Raptor intake valves wear out quickly & a multi angle valve job with new intake valves is worth the $$
If you want a little insurance, upgrade to the Ferrea stainless valves, they will last longer than the stockers.
The head can flow all it wants but if the valves can't seal properly it will not make its potential power.
