Warning:Shaft driven machines don't take well to jumping.
If you are on the gas when you hit dirt it will put stress on the splines they are not engineered for.
When in the air the splines are at the fullest extension. When you hit dirt and they are not lubed good or just a tiny bit cocked you are going to be pushing the splined drive shaft into the engine or the driven splined shaft at the differential hard.
The occasional Hop is ok but lots of fun jumping can be exspensive. Ask any good ATV Tech.

I have a Grizz and its great! No major complaints,
However, you need consider what will you use it for more? From what I have read the Kodiak is more tunable for sportier riding. its has adjustable front & rear suspension and has a couple of plus's the Grizzly doesn't, Like water cooling and rear disk brakes. (and those rear disks sound good compared to the shabby so-called-sealed drums).
Here in Missouri the difference between the 2 is only $200 bucks.. Most people I have talked to seem to opt for the Grizzly. (200 more CC's for $200 is the usual argument) Like I Said the Grizzly is awsome. I havn't had any problems and they are like tanks. If you check out my website you can see that I have had mine off the ground a few times. But not much. Good luck on whatever you get. They both are great machines.

Go with the grizz. It will do everything you want it to do. My buddy has a kodiac that he bought for hunting and playing. We have not got together to go rid'n, but we talk about both machines all the time. Truck drivers.(just drive and talk).lol..... Something he always ask is about the size, he feels like the grizz is to big for the woods, and for play'n. Thats why he went with the kodiac. Noth'n wrong with that, his choice, but I can tell ya that with the grizz, it is a bonifide,RUSH......its a great sport/utility. The power is awesome, its nimble in the woods, and fun as hell, spend the extra 500 and enjoy.

Oh, I forgot to mention that Ridgerunner said a mouthful about the brakes. The rear drum brakes are shabby, I agree the disc's does sound good. The kinda of rid'n I do I have to clean my brakes after almost every ride. But I love deep water, and I can handle the consequences.................

I went to my local dealer to buy a Grizzly. Salesman talked me into taking a test ride on the Kodiak then decide witch to buy, there was only 500$ differance also. When I got back from riding the Kodiak I was impressed, then I took the Grizzly out. It felt like a tank compared to the Kodiak.I bought the kodiak and never regretted it. If you can test ride both and decide for yourself.

I have this bad habit of playing Trials Rider on my Kodaik. I have tipped it on it's side more than once and I'm really glad its not as heavy as some other machines. This does matter when your on the down hill side and the machine wants to crush you. I can handle the weight of the Kodiak with ease. I know what to expect and push/shove it back into place. I always feared the worse with my old 425 Polaris. So yes...weight does play an important part in your ridding style.
