Default Warrior Question

Do any of you guys know if there is a way that the reverse lever on the Warrior could be modified to a switch like the Raptor? If so please give me more information!

I'm not real sure, but I think the 04 Raptor 350 (redesigned Warrior) is setup like that. Check out the April Dirtwheels for maybe more info but the Raptors reverse is operated by an electric switch and by shifting down, while the old warrior is all just a lever...

I allready checked it out, but it is set up just like the way the Warrior is set up. I really want to know about changing this reverse. I'm tempted to call Yamaha up and ask them about it.

Welp, then I doubt you can, because the Warrior tranny doesn't have the same gear for reverse as the Raptor does. But good luck, just the same!!

If you're 1/2ways electrically inclined you could get a servo motor to operate the linkage. It's a totally mechanical system right now with a lock on the reverse lever. If you removed the reverse lever and replaced it with a stroking servo motor of appropriate length, then you could rig up a button on the console or fender or wherever to actuate the servo and shift into reverse. It really shouldn't be that hard.

You'd have to do some research on the servos and their controls is about it .. and fab up a mount for the motor which will sit where the existing shift lever is.

I personally don't think it's possible first of all because reverse isn't achievable through the shift lever. Reverse is controlled by the shift lever on the Rappy and controlled by a completly different lever (clunky one at that) on the Warrior. Especially with the procedure you must do to activate reverse (pulling up and back to get it locked in) it won't be possible to get a Rappy type reverse "engager" on the Warrior. You'll always have to have that type of motion to engage reverse, you could prolly rig up something to make it easier to engage but the same general way to do it will stay the same.

The reason I want to know is because I hate the way it is really rough. I like the way that the raptor and z400 have a smooth reverse. Also when I am in 6th gear, full throttle it will sometimes slip out of gear and my engine will rev up really high. That is why I am interested in changing my reverse lever. For all of you Warrior owners... Does this happen to you, or has it happened to you?

The only thing close to this that happens to me is when changing from reverse back into forward, sometimes you have to slip the clutch a bit to get it to engage. I've never had my tranny slip out of gear though. That's a scary thought .. especially if you're driving up a steep hill climb ...

When this happens do you notice if the reverse lever has shifted in it's position? Near as I can tell, without looking at it more closely .. the reverse lever has a bit of a locking mechanism on it whereby you have to pull the **** up to clear the key and then backward to put it in reverse. I don't think you have to pull up to put it back in forward .. funny how things you do every day you don't take notice of??

This may be something as simple as a defective reversing lever, which you could get at your dealer and install yourself. The servo idea I mentioned above would provide a solid actuation of the linkage and prevent any slippage of the lever, as long as the servo is strong.

Maybe the linkage itself needs to be adjusted??

Default Warrior Question

So how much would it cost to get one of these servo motors and where would I get one from? Is it pretty complicating or is it a simple do-it-yourself project?
