Twist Throttle or Lever: Whats your opinion?
#12
I currently have a thumb throttle and am considering switching to a twist. Anytime my thumb is fatigued, I have a hard time with throttle control and have a tendancy to give the machine too much thumb. This is a result of pushing my hand forward (because my thumb is tired) when I need gas. It seems with a thumb throttle, the gas is all or none when your thumb is tired. Which I guess might be fine for the wide open dunes, but can be quite dangerous on the MX track, or even worse, in the woods.
Recently, I came up a steep hill with all my weight forward. My leg pushed my thumb into the throttle at the very top off the hill, exactly the time when I needed to let off the throttle. That was a wild ride.
Tight right corners are hard with a thumb throttle. I usually have to put my hand over the front of the grip, then pull the throttle in with my forefinger. Very little throttle control there, especially when you have to switch back to normal grip position and use the thumb.
The only thing keeping me from switching to a twist right now is having to re-synch the two carbs after getting the twist installed. The machine is running great right now and I don't want to mess with it if I don't have too. But since kmoney has to mess with it anyway and doesn't have two carbs...
just my $.02

I will have to agree with these guys that this is a question of personal preference. Don't let anyone scare you one way or the other. I currently run twist throttle. I like it better than a thumb. Again, this is my personal preference. I can assure you that after a week or so of getting used to it ( if it takes that long ) you will have no trouble with rapping it in an odd situation, it just doesn't work like that. when you pull or push on your handle bars, you are doing just that, pulling or pushing, the throttle is controlled by your wrist which makes it easy to keep in one place.
And if you properly glue your grip on the throttle, you won't have to worry about it slipping. and i can tell you from experience ( i made the mistake of not glueing the grip ) that if a grip does slip, it actually decelerates you, not speeds you up. Give the twist throttle a try, if you like it... great, if you don't.... put a thumb back on it. Just make your own decision about it and don't let any of these guys scare you one way or the other.

i have a twist throttle on my Warrior and i absolutly love it. you get the power out alot faster in my opinion. my friend that has a 400EX with a thumb throttle rode my quad and doesn't like the twist throttle. he calls them "suicide throttles" ha ha ha, funny huh.

I just changed my tumb throttle to a twist on my 2000 Wolverine. I always rode bikes and really never got comfortable with the thumb on the ATV's. It's just depends on what you like. I decided to spend the $40.00 and see if the twist is more comfortable..Will let you know..
