Anyone had too replace any Rap valve guides? Any pointers?? Thanks!

 

I did on one, but that was only because I floated a valve and it broke the valve guide when it bent the vavle all to hell.

 

I have too replace an intake guide. What did you use too get the guide out? Was it tough too get out and back in?

 

I think the manual says to heat the head in the oven, and use the right tool (BFH). Are you doing a valve job on it too?

Yep, I will be doing a valve job.....already have the proper tools....[img]i/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif[/img]. This will be especially necessary since I have 2 new valves on order. Hey there Tony, how are things going today? I was wanting too question you on the center intake valve filing recommended for proper operation of the Kibblewhite springs. Does the guide itself need filing or something else? What if this is not done....what are the ramifications? Thanks bud!

RESPONSE:
Hi Gary,
The center intake guide in some cases doesn't get seated against the cylinder head. The way to see is to remove the stock spring seat and look at the location of the guide stopper ring. If the ring is against the head, no machining will be needed. If the ring is above the level of the head, take .040" or 1 mm off the top of the valve guide.
Generally speaking, there is no need for any machining, it comes down to how good a job Yamaha did at installing the guide into the head. And by no means NEVER attempt to push the guide any further in that it is unless you have a Serdi valve cutter or some other way of cutting valve seat.
