Grizzly shootout

this is a question for anyone running larger tires and clutch kit on a Grizzy 660. I was curious if it will accelerate as fast as a grizzly with stock tires & clutching? I got beat real bad by a stock set up and was wondering if the tires made that much of a difference in a acceleration? (I was told that each tire is 10lb heavier than stock) I am currently using itp c series alum. wheels with 589 m/s 27" rubber.

Hey sparky, I have an 02 Grizz with 26" 589's, Big Gun, K/N and jetted but sorry no clutch kit. 589's are very heavy and are (in my openion) only good for mudbogs. The Grizz looks scary and cool as heck with 589's! Best looking ATV on the market! Any way, the bigger tire size and the extra weight of the 589's kill the power, clutch kit or not. A tall tire makes you in a way geared higher and the weight has a lot to do with it also. Only my 2 cents.

Thanks hitman. That was what I thought. I'm biulding the machine for the mudbogs so if i were to be realistic I can't have the best of both worlds. I think that the mudlites would have been a better choice for me, but I spend 90% of my time in the muskeg so the 589s I think are still a good choice. I told the guy that stomped me to meet in a muskeg hole and we will see who comes out on top. I should have known to that the larger tires changes the gearing. Thanks for the help once again.

I was wondering because I know with my Grizz and stock tires it has way more power and can wheelie way easier with the stockers!It will go at least 65mph according to the speedometer with the stockers and about 58 with the 27" Mudhogs.These tires with steel wheels are 43 lbs. a piece and the stockers with the aluminum rims way next to nothing.It would be great to have both worlds and have speed,clearance,and the ability to conquer the mudholes with one tire/rim combination.

It would be nice to have the best of both worlds. One thinf that I did notice was that I lost some topend speed on my grizz (so I thought) but going with the larger wheels made the speedometer register slower than what it was actually doing. With my gps in hand I found that I had lost maybe 2-3 mph on my top speed. Another piece of advise is to get the clutch kit for the larger tires it made a hell of alot of difference especially in the deep snow and mud.

Where do you live Sparky? I think what you might need to help you would be putting a pipe on that, or else your intake kit will only help a bit on your throttle responce, and not much on the top end, where as the pipe would help make up a bit for the bigger tires. It shouldn't be that hard with mods to at least make your grizz run close or same as stock with mods and that clutch kit. How does it do on the bottom end of the race compared to stock, or are you just losing on the top end? ITP C-series with the Mudlites would have been the best choice overall for both worlds in my opinion. It's not all about size and displacement though, I bet my Modded T-Wolf wouldn't have much problem going anywhere the bigger machines go, I know I can go pretty good on bald stock tires! Instead of going bigger, I'm going wider, cause what doesn't sink, doesn't need ground clearance! I'm already the lightest 4x4 quad made out of the factory, so this fall I'll be running 12" wide ITP mudlites in 22" tall instead of my stock 23" tall tires, so I'm gaining more torque by going smaller to turn them even though I got the engine built with all bolt ons! If I do get hung up, I get off and just push it out like the good 'ol trikes cause it's so light! I barely ever need to be winched anywhere, I don't even have a winch! LOL It's all about staying on top with the skeg!
