Default Bore questions...

One of my buddys says it will if done right to bore a machine keeping it as reliable as it still is. He said he read on the trinity site that you an bore up to .60 over without changing anything and it will run better and as reliable as it did when it was stock cubic centimeters. I just think that this cant be correct.."i think that as long as you get and oversized oil tank any amount of boring is accepted " this i think is very wrong beacuase he would be saying that i could bore like .120 over and be as reliable if i just get a oversized oil tank... Hard to belive. How does trinity do such big heads and such and still not blow up..?? shesh

"you can bore it 80 over before having to seriously having to owrry about overheating" thats another thing he said....

Im with you jbomb. The more you bore the less reliable the cylinder becomes. Its probably safe to go to .060 but boring is taking away from your cylinder walls and making it thinner. Crush a soda can with your foot and then try to do the same with a soup can. This is basically the same principal minus the heat factor. Your theory makes sense, but I think that when done in moderation, boring can be an excellent alterantive to costly resleeving.

My banshee is on it's second bore job (since 1996). If done properly, I can see very little affect in the life of your engine. My first bore was to .020 and this last one was .030. That is not much at all. I do not over heat and the bike is strong as when I got it.

You are correct that the walls are getting thinner as you bore it larger, But if your bike is jetted right, your not going to see a major increase in temperature...remember..we are talking thousanths of an inch. My buddy runs his banshee at .080 with no problems.

just some thoughts
